Breakthroughs Made in the Shale Gas Investigation in Western Hubei Province

        Updated :02,08,2019
The efforts for shale gas survey conducted by the China Geological Survey in western Hubei province have yielded strategic breakthroughs.

The evaluation of the shale gas resource potential shows that the shale gas geological resources in western Hubei province amounts to 11.68 trillion cubic meters. With a resource base of an annual production capacity of 10 billion cubic meters, the region is expected to become a new base for both the development of China’s shale gas exploration and the increase of reserves and production of natural gas, making it one of the “Three Resources Pillars” in China -- “West Hubei - Peilin and Changning,Chongqing – Weiyuan”.Experts believes that the high-yield shale gas flows have been obtained in the Sinian, Cambrian and Silurian strata of West Hubei, which has made breakthroughs in the status quo that shale gas exploration and development in China are concentrated in a stratum of the Longmaxi Formation in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, greatly expands the areas for shale gas exploration and development for  China.
